Alright guys, it’s time for our second installment this week! We welcome you back to joining us on Helix Week, where we honor and show off blogs done using hand-drawn and pencil-to-paper as the style. Doesn’t matter if your artistic medium is crayons, markers, or colored pencils, whatever works here is fine. We’ll be showing off blogs that can be either popular, well designed, high quality art, or just simply ingenius. All in an effort to show you guys that your artwork IS valuable, even if you’re not able to use programs or stylize them like other artists do.
So tonight we have a pencil-to-paper blog! It’s Ask Winter Berry!
Quite the cutie isn’t she? This is Winter Berry! She runs a local pastry shop in Ponyville and picks fresh berries each day to mix with her baked goods.
She’s pretty adorable, and I’m sure you all will warm up to her rather quickly. Now why do I love this blog? Well aside from the character being so easily likeable, the art style of the blog is just awesome. It really is showing off exactly the reason why I started this Helix Week to begin with. The amount of quality and design you can get from using pencil to paper is astounding, and honestly this is the type of workmanship every blog who uses pencils and paper as their medium have to look forward to themselves.
Now what about some character development to lighten the mood eh?
Aww. Shame ain’t it? Guess it didn’t really serve to lighten up the mood did it? Still, you gotta give it to the little lady (er, mare?), she’s at least working hard right? Even if she hasn’t got the best of help in the world around her shop.
To be honest, I’m really looking forward to what this blog pumps out in the future. The character is interesting and adorable in her own sort of subtle way, and the style and medium used makes it a nice new look for your dashboard. Trust me folks, she’s very much worth the follow.

Welcome to the first installment of what I’m calling Helix Week, showing different blogs done in a pencil/hand-drawn style, each one showing different aspects that these blogs can have just as much as any other blog, from popularity, humour, design, quality, and creativity.
So here we have a blog that’s been growing in both popularity and humor alike. Tonight it’s Ask Kirby Pony!
And yes, it’s THAT Kirby. Yeah, apparently he’s a pony now. So yeah there’s that. Now I don’t know about you, but in my younger days I loved Kirby games, and I even watched the anime. Kirby was like the Derpy of the gaming world, and though the character didn’t have a HUGE amount of development, he was still a lovable little guy. So I’ve been wanting to do this blog for a while now and this seems like the perfect time to do so.
Now for those of you who may not know who Kirby is, well you’ve been living under a rock but I’ll tell you anyways. Kirby is an adorable little guy able to eat anything everything, though sometimes that turns out to get him in trouble…
And sometimes it can get him into a LOT of trouble.
And sometimes the things he eats ends up with some unexpected drawbacks.
So what can you say about this blog then? Well I like the shading he pulls of, and the drawings feel very smooth. The humor is awesome and matches the characters, and the references to both ponydom and Kirby’s own universe as well as the games make the blog completely worth the follow.

Ever since I started this blog, I have gotten plenty of messages from people asking to be spotlighted. However, I have gotten different messages, sometimes anonymous, of people saying that they think that their blogs are not good enough to be shown, that they don’t have pictures using as much quality as other blogs, and so they were too scared to ask.
Then I got a message from this person.
This is Helix. He continues to draw even though he’s been running his tumblr for more than half a year now, and yet only gets one or two asks a month. Even so, he continues to draw, making multiple posts a day. He hasn’t let that fact keep him down, or that he can’t draw incredible amazing masterpieces that take days to complete. He draws for the love of drawing, and he’s happy for it. He doesn’t feel bad for not using a tablet or not being able to use programs like other artists do, and he still had the courage to ask.
I want you all to know, that this Spotlight blog is not about who’s the best of the best. It’s about giving everyone their chance to have their blog presented. It’s not about how good your blog is, it’s about letting your work speak for itself, and giving you a chance to say “This is what I do. Take it or don’t.”
You don’t need to be afraid that you’re never good enough, and for those of you that were too afraid to begin with, I urge you to start asking.
So in honor of Ask-Helix and his courage in asking to be known, starting tonight and through the rest of the week, I will be showing blogs done in the same pencil/hand-drawn style as his blog, with each one showing how much you can make of that type of style and how you shouldn’t be dissuaded or think you can’t make something of it.

Alright kiddies, it’s time for another Spotlight. As you know, this week I’ve decided to turn off my usual cheerful attitude and show you guys what I’m really like. So lets see what kind of badass we’re reviewing today. Pfft, screw that bit. You guys already read the title. You already know who it is so let’s jump right in to see what this guy’s got in store.
Alright, so right off the back you can pretty much tell why this blog’s gonna be awesome, and why this guy deserves to be following Kanji in this week of being a badass. This is Black Rider, and he runs a little bar for fellow bikers in Ponyville, which he runs . Need a place to chill out and eat? Wanna see some dancers while you’re at it, or hang with some others who enjoy their rides? That’s gonna be your place to be kiddies. Just make sure you keep your hands off the bikes.
Brutal. Just the way I like it. Personally, I don’t really see a reason for you kiddies NOT to be following this blog. It’s got everything you need. Good art style, ass whoopin’s, great story, entertaining characters. If you’re not following this blog yet you better be after this or else you’re gonna need a smack upside that head. But don’t worry, the guy may be tough but like a true badass he has a good heart.
Yeah, that’s right. He hugs orphans. Fucking deal with it. Don’t question it. But just because he hugs orphans, don’t think you can make this guy out to be a sweetheart.

Alright guys, it’s time for this week’s Ponysona blog! We’ve already been through a couple of the ponified cast, and now it’s time for the badass of the group to show up. So here comes Kanji Pony!
God I love badasses. Why? Because despite trying to make this blog have a cheerful happy tone, as any of you who were there in our livestream about two weeks back found out, I’m actually part of that select group of people who just exude the essence of being tough and awesome. Why? Because “Fuck You!” that’s why! So tonight we honor a fellow badass by now turning off the usual polite charm of the spotlight that’s done with group planning and verification on what to write and all that crap, and just letting myself go free form on this bitch. And if you guys wanna see that little livestream, go over and check it out too if you got the balls (though the first like 35 minutes is nothing but me doing sound check or trying to set things up before the call started, and after that we gave everyone about another 30 minutes before we started the livestream, but don’t worry, Shining Armor kept us entertained throughout, like reading clopfics….But I’m getting off track. Hehe.).

Now who the hell is Kanji some of you might be asking? Well then get the fuck off this blog, tonight’s not for you kiddies. Members only right now. Kanji is the anti-thug of the Persona group, kicking ass of the punks who need their asses kicked. Making too much noise in the neighborhood with your goddamn bikes? Get your asses knocked out! Why? Because “Fuck You Its Kanji” that’s why.
This is basically how me and my friends interact. So yeah to me this…
…is about right. Not sure why but I fucking love this guy. Answer to everything? Hit it. Don’t even need to explain why, just do it.
I fucking love the way the mod portrays this guy, he’s still a badass but he’s got that humor to him others will love to see. The mod apparently knew how to capture the character just right and goddamn do I fucking love them for it.
Though like a true badass, he knows when to hold himself back. It may be hard, but yeah no problem…no problem…
But in the end, like any real badass, he knows how to make his girl happy.
Though don’t worry, aside from just the natural badass that is Kanji, there’s plenty of humor elements to the blog as well, and in fact it’s pretty heavily strewn throughout, along with story arcs that gone for quite a many parts with each one consisting of a number of pictures. This along with plenty of interactions with the rest of the Ponysona community makes this blog a must follow.
And if you don’t follow it, I’ll have to kick your ass. Nothing personal, just the rules of life baby. Oh yeah, gotta end this damn thing on some kind of cutesy picture right?

Alright folks, I’ve been waiting to do a Spotlight on this blog since it’s creation a week ago (That’s right. I'mma stalk you!) And now that they’ve built up enough posts, here they are! Shining Armor and Cadence!
As you probably could guess, Shining Armor’s more of the comic relief here, but plays off well with Cadence’s more serious attitude. And these two compliment each other pretty well as one would expect. At the same time, some posts simply show them being together.
Even when they are answering questions seperately it’s still manages to be hilarious, and honestly I can’t get enough of this blog’s humor, and of course the artstyle goes along nicely with its humorous tone.

Alright folks so it’s Thursday night. Why am I writing this for Wednesday’s post? Well I wanted to make a special day for our previous video that we reblogged. If you haven’t seen it yet, you need to go watch that video. It’s both inspirational and moving.
Now onto the Spotlight! Today we have The Killjoy Detective herself, Naoto!
Yep, it’s time for another of the Ponysona 4 blogs! Weird fact, this is actually a girl. Yeah apparently the human version of this character in the game was sort of the same way. Weird huh?
Yes this is the ponified version of Naoto. She is part of a group from the game Persona 4. And as you may have guessed, she’s one part cynical and one part detective. Unfortunately for her, in a world like Persona (or Ponysona in this case), science doesn’t have much standing.
Of course, we couldn’t talk about the pony without talking about their persona. And on that note, I have no clue about their persona at all! No seriously, I have yet to play the game but from what I’ve seen it seems to be the runt of the litter, but a very hyper-active little guy. Cute too.
Now, something that I’m sure you’ve noticed is that the art style tends to change a lot for the posts. And to be honest? I really like when a blog keeps changing its style. It makes kind of interseting to watch, because while many artists stick to just one style, it really shows the skill of the artist involved when they can use different kinds. And that’s pretty enjoyable kind of thing to see.
So if you’re a fan of Persona 4, go give the blog a follow! If not? You’ll probably still be as lost as I am but you’ll also enjoy the blog too.

I don’t have my own blog. I don’t know how to draw and I can’t voice act, and while I would love to get my real OC (Wild not Spotlight Heart) a blog someday, I really can’t do anything since I lack the ability.
I mean I would love to join in on all the tumblr games you guys do, like the proms and the different events, and I would like to be able to tell his story as well. It seems like it’d be a lot of fun! But like I said, I don’t have the capability to do that. I guess I’m a brawler, not an artist.
In fact that’s the reason I started the Pony Spotlight in the first place. I figured if I couldn’t draw or have a blog myself, I’d use my time to get other people’s art and blogs noticed. I hope to someday get everyone across tumblr and their pony blogs noticed. Who knows? Maybe afterwards I’ll move onto other types of blogs.
Still wish I could tell Wild’s story.
Alright guys, was finishing this up last night later than usual so I figured I’d queue it up for about 10:00 AM so you guys could see it without having to scroll through everything you missed during the night. And speaking of the night, today we have a blog about a bat pony! Ask Borealis!
This is Borealis, and as I said she’s a bat pony. Funny how we actually don’t see that many bat pony tumblrs around here much do we? Maybe I should do a week on them…
(Though don’t worry, she has a few of the other bat ponies of tumblr show up every once in a while, so she’s not totally alone.)
What does she do for a living? Well, I’ll give you a second to guess…
And you know what, it almost does seem like the perfect job, if it weren’t for the fact that unfortunately her skills as a bat pony…well…
….they aren’t exactly what you’d usually expect.
Still, she’s a very humorous pony who is willing to answer a lot of questions and due to her, it lets her end up in a variety of situations.
But even with her job, we still are able see the usual trappings of life, such being hit on…
Or trying to hit on others…
So as you can see there’s plenty of reasons to like this blog. As for me? I’ve always been a big fan of bat ponies (and yes I’m even a fan of seeing people ship that one pic someone made of a female bat pony Luna guard and the male pegasus Celestia guard. You know the one.)
The humour is actually funny without being completely random and the character can be adorable to watch without trying to fry your brain with cuteness overload. Not to say that those types of blogs don’t work, it just wouldn’t make sense in this situation. The character design also goes well with the subject matter, and she really does look like how you would expect a bat pony to look in everyday situations and conversations. Plus that red scarf was a really nice touch as well.
The blog’s art style and presentation fit well with both the character and the situations she’s in, and I’m very much looking forward to seeing more of Borealis. I’m giving the blog a follow and I hope you guys all do the same. Until next time, this has been the Pony Spotlight.
